Gotham is lifting its Vale of secrecy around one of Season 3’s most anticipated characters.
TVLine has learned exclusively that Once Upon a Time warrior Jamie Chung has been cast in the recurring role of Valerie Vale. Gotham Gazette‘s newest hire, Valerie is a crackerjack reporter dead set on uncovering the truth behind Indian Hill. Confident and dogged, she will do anything to get the scoop, and soon sets her sights on Gordon, who she believes is the key lead in her story.
It’s not clear what connection, if any, Valerie has to that other Vale, DC Comics icon Vicki. UPDATE: A source confirms that Valerie is Vicki’s aunt.
As TVLine previously reported, Gotham‘s upcoming third season will also mark the arrival of the Mad Hatter as well as usher in a bigger, badder Ivy Pepper.
Additionally, the Season 2 finale teased the entrance of Bruce Wayne’s long-haired doppelgänger, a development exec producer John Stephens told TVLine is “in line with all the other story we’ve been telling [in Season 2], but one piece that we’ve kept hidden,” adding that with the release of Strange’s bus full of monsters, “the nature of the city of Gotham will change.”
Gotham‘s third season is set to debut on Monday, Sept. 19 at 8/7.
Love Jamie but I’m still not coming back to this show. Guess that means poor Mulan is stuck in OZ with the munchkins!
Well…aside from yellow-washing a fan-favorite character, at least they have the sense to not age her out of Bruce’s age demo by making it Vicki’s aunt.
Still makes the ULTIMATE Vicki casting – Kim Basinger in Ttim Burton’s Batman – plausible to replicate down-the-line…
lol you cleary don’t know what that word “yellow washing” means.
Peeing in the washing machine?!
Please, they don’t need to replicate Kim Basinger’s performance. It was the one thing in the movie that was bloody awful. Furthermore, yellow washing? Did you seriously use that term?
Linda I had never heard of this before. Because azn Americans obviously get all the meaty roles. Fan boys trwck even the smallest role.if it ever goes to anyone with a bit of melanin.they act as if the world is going to end.
Right, the definitive casting in Kim Basinger — who was notably a blonde, while Vicki Vale in the comics is notably NOT a blonde? Or is that color change acceptable for some mysterious reason that skin color change wouldn’t be?
And also, the term “yellow-washing”…you’re adorable.
There’s nothing about Vicki Vale that has to be white. It’s not intrinsic to her character, she’s just a Lois knockoff and knockoffs can be any race. Heck, being Asian would help make her, her own character.
And “fan favourite”? She’s not even in the Top 5 Batman related females, I’d put Catwoman, Talia, Poison Ivy, Harley and Zatanna above her along with the bat-females Batgirl and Batwoman. And then there’s Julie Madson, Silver St Cloud and Vesper Fairchld all above Vicki Vale. :p
“Yellow washing,” the way that you’re implying, isn’t a thing in an industry in which Asians are vastly under-represented.
Now if we could just get to a point where Jamie Chung wasn’t the only Asian hired in her age group. But I’ll take this.
That’s fine. Cause once they ruined Mulan they don’t ever need to bring her back on OUAT
As she is recurring on Gotham, she could still make an appearance or two on OUAT.
